Using your voice
So I am lucky enough to work with an amazing vocal coach. Singing and using your voice to teach have many commonalities but something I thought was really interesting which I think as teachers we neglect is using your voice to convey emotion.
Now, I’ve heard this feedback before about people teaching in a monotone - it lacks energy and engagement. It makes the teacher sound bored and then you feel bored. Or sometimes they will say “great job” but their tone says “myeh”.
But, what if you were able to use your voice to convey the movement and energy - I LOVE IT when teachers match their voice and tone to the movement. Say for example, we’re lifting the hips up - your tone goes up up up! Or, your encouraging people with motivation and your voice has that bit of excitement in it.
It’s the smaller nuances in your teaching which I think really helps showcase your personality and authenticity but also gets your clients to buy into what you are asking them to do. It creates clarity and conviction!
But, let me know what you think - have you mastered the art of matching your voice to the movement?
