Caring for your tools

One thing I dont find we talk a lot about is caring for our tools as teachers. Obviously the main one is our body, we will do self mastery, self care and rest but.. What about our other most important tool and probably never really thought about. I am talking about our voice.

If you have an injury - depending on what it is you might be able to continue teaching, but without a voice - it’s near to impossible.

I really recommend investing in vocal care.

  1. Hydration - drink water, warm tea, honey and lemon - whatever you like to lubricate your throat

  2. Learn how to use your voice - take vocal lessons or public speaking - learn how to project and use your voice effectively and efficiently without screaming or straining - even if you do use a microphone

  3. Warm up your voice - like your body, maybe do some simple warm ups so that before you teach a long block

  4. Rest - like your body, the voice needs rest
