How often should I be changing my classes?

This is asked a lot, especially by new instructors.

Long story short: not as often as you think!

Make it easier on yourself and think about it like the 80/20 rule – 80% familiar stuff, 20% a bit jazzy.

A couple of ways you can think about it:

  • Follow a format – so warm up, peak/s, cool down – incorporate a familiar flow (like working around the machine or mat) or pattern to engage the body (large muscle groups into smaller etc)

  • Program in blocks or flow – so have chunks that can be used interchangeably in classes

  • Terms or cycles – longer periods where you might working into a “peak” exercise or focus/theme
