Beyond teaching skills: the employability Venn diagram

This teaching tip is on being a great and EMPLOYABLE instructor. I think of this as 3 components in a Venn diagram:

  • CAN TEACH

  • VIBES

  • RELIABILITY

When I meet instructors most of the time, getting two of these is easy but all 3 is magic.

What exactly do I mean by these?

“can teach” – literally you can program, teach and command a class no issues.

“Vibes” – is the personality, the charm, the humour, the quality that gets people engaged, welcomed and seen. And coming back to your classes.

Finally, “reliability” – this is the admin/not so exciting side of things that lets businesses run smoothly – like arriving to class on time, getting your invoices in on time and other probably not so glamorous tasks.

So, when you think about yourself – are you all three? Are you more?
